Teaching Philosophy
"Life is a journey, not a destination" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Just like this photo, the journey of teaching can a few bumps along the way. Going into education I have realized the potential I will have to make a difference, and what it takes to be a teacher. I believe in creating a classroom where students feel safe and respected. This will help them contribute to class discussion and feel like they can enjoy learning in my class. As a science teacher, I want to show students how science ties into the world we live in, and by doing so, create an authentic classroom environment. Providing choices for my students is also something I want to incorporate, because it gives them a little more control over their learning and allows for differentiated instruction. I will make sure my classroom is a positive place where 21st century skills are strengthened and students can be driven towards success. I want to provide them with the materials and knowledge they will need to succeed. A strong emphasis will be placed on WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) skills within my classroom, because I see these skills as essential to learn in any content area or career field.
